WHAT SHOULD I ASK DURING MY COLLEGE VISITS?

Some things to consider in choosing a college that’s right for you

Before visiting a school or meeting with an admissions representative, read their literature and make a list of issues that are important to YOU. Some questions could include:

  1. How many students are in a typical freshman classroom?
  2. Do you offer internships or co-op opportunities where I can combine my course work with hands-on experience?
  3. What types of work-study opportunities exist where I can earn part-time income?
  4. What type of support services do you offer in terms of tutoring, advising, personal concerns, financial assistance, job placement, etc.
  5. Do you offer any direct loans or grants? If so, how do I apply for them?
  6. What are your Application and Financial Aid deadlines?
  7. Can I switch majors and if so, when do I have to make a final decision on my major?
  8. As a potential ______ major, what courses will I be taking in my first two years?
  9. Have the courses I’ve taken in high school been appropriate for the major I am considering?
  10. Can I meet with faculty & students and/or spend an overnight on campus?
